It was ok.

I will say, it felt a bit rushed. Would have liked the note taking part to be in Italics to differentiate from regular paragraphs.

@[Allan Weiss](/user/show/472888) Thanks for your feedback and advice. I'll start writing notes in italics from now on.

Unfortunately this reads like AI prose too much to be enjoyable.

@[Mafisto](/user/show/600927) Hmm, is it not worth considering that some AI prose could be more successful than others?

@[Mafisto](/user/show/600927) I understand the AI comments, they don't bother me and I typically dislike AI spam as well. I generally go through and make sure it doesn't come across as spam, but perhaps it can't be helped. Feel free to keep the comments.

@[Mafisto](/user/show/600927) @[Mafisto](/user/show/600927) I normally come to the comments first, especially on a story like this one that is 19k words…if someone has an opinion on how a story reads, that is plenty reason to comment.

I think the critique is valid. Even if a story is marked using AI patterns, you can still criticise it for the AI being too invasive to be enjoyed by that particular reader. If we didn't allow that, we would basically need to ban any negative critique, and that's certainly not an option. Yes, the author can be hurt, but that's true for any critique. And it wasn't worded in a harsh way either. So, unless you feel my approach is wrong (for which I'd ask you to tell me in the forum, not here), I'd leave this comment and the thread as it is.

@Anonymous I was too harsh on the comment, the later anonymous comments helped me realize there was some sort of utility to it. I reacted the same way the user who reported it did. I still wish it had been formulated in a more specific and constructive way, but in retrospect, it does not deserve to be banned.

@[Mafisto](/user/show/600927) to be fair @Mafisto, it would easy to see an "Anonymous" comment like that as trolling , "Anonymous" tends to be the theme repeated across multiple ai prose stories and authors. however @Corin has already displayed the ability to detect and ban such people so i have faith this comment is isolated to this story and well meaning in nature, still they could of been clearer it was their opinion and not a blanket statement

@Anonymous I think there is also misunderstanding about the tag. If a story is written with AI assistance but reshaped afterwards enough to eliminate the AI prose, it won’t be tagged because the result cannot be reliably distinguished from a human written story. There’s no secret watermark on sequences of words coming from AI. So when the tag “contains AI patterns” is there, it already means by default that it is in some way invasive, that it is not subtle. And when it is pure AI slop, like almost no human editing afterwards, we reject the story. So it doesn’t leave a whole lot of range of degree of AI-ness to comment on in my opinion. But there is a range, I’m sure, and one person saying that it felt to them closer to the “overwhelmingly AI sounding” part of the range than to the “easily detectable AI prose” part of the range, might be useful, I guess. Seems like splitting hairs and not very helpful to the author, like what is he supposed to do with that? Even a comment like “The pattern of not this, not this, but that, was so frequent as to make me cringe each time” (example not related to that actual story) would have been much more useful.

@[Mike_T](/user/show/10069713) Well you're getting a lot of favorites and lots of positive comments, so you've done something right. The important thing is to find your audience.

@Anonymous no.

@[Mafisto](/user/show/600927) Hi, I posted the original comment. I don't think necessarily there's anything wrong with pointing out that it sounded AI-y. Obviously people like this story and I'm glad for them, but if this site allows AI to be used then it also has to be ready for people pointing out that it's usually by nature derivative and quite soulless. I'm not a writer so I can't point out specifics really, but I think if you're actually wanting to read quality writing it's helpful to have these discussions in the comments.

2/1/26, 11:10 PM
@[tsuro](/user/show/10049054) That’s all very nice, but the tag “Contains AI Patterns” is already a neon sign that says “this story will sound AI-y”. Saying you didn’t enjoy this story because of that is the same thing as saying on a muscle tagged story “Unfortunately this was too much about muscle to be enjoyable” If you want to make a statement about AI writing in general, make a forum post or something. Also you phrased it as a general fact instead of just your personal experience. So, we know it’s AI, we know many people don’t enjoy that type of writing, there’s no need to restate that on every AI story that you don’t enjoy just for containing AI patterns. Your comment didn’t open up any constructive discussion about that particular story that would be helpful to the author or even readers, you just pointed out it was AI as tagged and that because of that, you didn’t enjoy it. For any given story, there are way more people who will not enjoy it because of some aspects than there are who will enjoy it. If they all decided to comment on how they “didn’t enjoy because I don’t like smoking in stories”, “didn’t enjoy because I don’t like mustaches in stories” we’d never see the end of it. What people pointed out, that it may just be that it was a particularly AI-y story within the range of AI-ness, gives some potential glimmer of usefulness to your comment though. And still, your comment would not have deserved to be banned. There’s enough censorship of ideas everywhere lately anyway. So it stands, your voice is heard. Yay.

@[Mafisto](/user/show/600927) I am sooo glad this is the first impression of me by the site owner and a moderator lmaoooo

@[Mike_T](/user/show/10069713) Concentrate on the good reception your story is having. Your story was favorited dozens of times, has good ratings and gathered positive comments. Both Corin and I love that authors contribute to the site with stories that engage and provide pleasure to readers. We have a positive impression of you for sure. (Well, at least I do.)

@[Mike_T](/user/show/10069713) maybe write a story on your own if you care so much about the impressions other people have of you.

@[Jules the Werewolf](/user/show/913350) This is uncalled for. Please mind your tone.

2/4/26, 1:21 AM
@[Corin](/user/show/125990) what's wrong with my tone? just making a statement of fact. if he doesn't like the fact that people think the story sounds too much like AI, then he just doesn't have to use AI.
