So, to throw in my two cents (which is worth almost nothing these days!), i also hated the story! It certainly did engender a lot of polarized responses, but @AgainstMyWill is right about his safe sandbox idea, and how it creates opportunities to safely push ourselves to extremes and help us learn about ourselves. Briefly for background, at least on sites like this i am a bottom boy/slut/slave/faggot and very intentionally using this to learn just how much of my fantasies are part of my hopeful reality. i love D/s and erotic M/s. i do hate being purposefully degraded or humiliated, and don't find that element of BDSM to be at all arousing. That said, somewhat like our main character here, much of what might be generally considered humiliating, is not for me so much humiliating as firing up the arousal i get from submitting and obeying. If i am just doing my job as a faggot, then how can it be humiliating to obey and serve? So, what are the elements that turn us on or off? While submitting to another, i need to be developing a close connection to another human being, very intimate and appreciated on both sides. i use the word 'worthy' to describe a Dominant or Master who in my mind is worth my time and energy. That means to me such a 'worthy' Dominant also has some interest in me as a individual and will have some level of appreciation for what i am giving up to him and for him, that he is also interested in having some sort of intimate relationship (even if it is just for one night), and that both of us have a positive constructive experience. Coming back to 'degradation'; i am fine with a Dom pointing out how he is superior and how i need improvement, why he should be in control and i should submit to him. At the same time though, the relationship should be pushing both of us to be better happier people. That is where the antagonist in this story fails for me. The protagonist has failed to bring anything positive to the antagonist's life, and the antagonist in turn is demonstrating just how abusive and hateful he can be. How could they in all probability ever find anything special or positive about their time together? In my mind both parties lose in the end. Of course nothing is quite that simple as we are a complex and varied species. i readily acknowledge that other BDSMrs may very well disagree about what turns them on or off. And that's fine. That's why, i presume, AgainstMyWill allows us all to play in his sandbox with whomever we please. It is often so very difficult even to discover truths about ourselves. About others we can only accept them for what they are and hope that they can share the sandbox reasonably nicely. Oh! To be a 'worthy' boislut, i really to need to thank @AgainstMyWill for writing some of my favorite BDSM stories of all time, and for introducing us to his sandbox where he allows us to build castles.

I used to believe I was the only fan Cavalier had. Of all the characters, he seemed the most universally disliked — and it can all be traced to this chapter and Cav’s “toxic masculinity”. Personally, I think AppleJack raping Red is a much worse crime, but I got so many reactions to Cav slapping AppleJack that I wondered if I had presented the story wrong. More, I think AppleJack’s storyline and development needed this moment. (Cav’s too). And by the end, everything has been worked out by all three.
