@Dishrag - My thought was that his actual intelligence never changes, but it gets redirected into other pursuits. When he jumps forward in time, the universe adjusts around the changes, and no matter what his new timeline is, it’s one where he invented a time machine, because otherwise we’d have a paradox. The farther we get, the more of an idiot savant invention it becomes. It’s set in Vancouver. I’m on the West Coast. Not in Vancouver itself, but close enough that I’ve visited now and again. To be honest, I’ve been waiting for someone to notice the city in the story.

Real hot as always! All the details seem to fit well together (other than how he'd be able to make a time machine after the first trip, but even that wasn't that distracting). Also if this is set in the city I think it does, then I definitely identify similarly to the original Aaron. Maybe it's time to for me to build my own time machine so I can go through similar transformations.
