i have to admit, i am really excited about the group telepathy idea portrayed in this story. Just an hour or so after writing the comment above, I read the article linked below, which talks about neuro-synchronicity. Prior to the reference link at the bottom of this comment, I have inserted three excerpts from the article which I think summarize elements that could be used to build on my suggestion above on extending this story. Imagine if a rather evil dominant Alpha Mastermind could have developed an even higher level of control over the biophysics of telepathy as used by our telepathic friends in the story, control which He can use to force his will on others. Having inserted this nanno-idea into the imaginative heads of GSS authors, i leave it to do its magic and ultimately spin off an additional chapter or story or two or more! i hope people have some fun with this! "Neuroscientists have identified sync in their research, too. Large-scale neuron firing occurs in human brains at measurable frequencies, with mammalian consciousness thought to be commonly associated with various kinds of neuronal sync." "Resonance theory [of consciousness] builds upon the work of Fries and many others, with a broader approach that can help to explain not only human and mammalian consciousness, but also consciousness more broadly." " As a particular shared resonance expands to more and more constituents, the new conscious entity that results from this resonance and combination grows larger and more complex. So the shared resonance in a human brain that achieves gamma synchrony, for example, includes a far larger number of neurons and neuronal connections than is the case for beta or theta rhythms alone. What about larger inter-organism resonance like the cloud of fireflies with their little lights flashing in sync? Researchers think their bioluminescent resonance arises due to internal biological oscillators that automatically result in each firefly syncing up with its neighbors." https://getpocket.com/explore/item/could-consciousness-all-come-down-to-the-way-things-vibrate?utm_source=pocket-newtab

Yes! i love everything about this story! i love the way the context was very realistically created out of the isolate-at-home situation. i love the way the main character got more and more in tune with his body - and his mind! i love the idea of being able to connect multiple minds and thoughts, creating a cosmic mind connection. i had trouble with the "mind control" rating since in every other story i've read, the control is coming involuntarily from an external dominant mind. This mind control came from within the character, which enabled him to telepathically connect with others - great idea! One option for taking this story forward (after the telepathic characters and their friendships were happily developed) would be to have an evil character join the group and use this situation to take control over the minds of the original circle of friends to mindfuck with them. i just hope that, wherever it goes, the story is continued. Thanks so much for great entertainment. Your story plot is almost analogous to your finding the mind control, focus and imagination as an author to write this story and connect with the rest of us as readers -- unfortunately without any telepathy actually involved - this time! Still, a very interesting experience! Thanks!

> I think that a couple dozen of the authors on this site should get together and write ‘how it’s written’ style pieces to talk about aspects of their work. I think it’d be a fascinating read, especially in a niche genre like this. > First of all, I applaud anyone who wants to write! And I really do think that the best way to learn how to write is by writing. That said, some of the best classes I took as an undergrad were writing workshops. (I ended up minoring in creative writing, but that's only because I took so many writing seminars that I accumulated the credits. It wasn't my intent.) My Humorous Writing professor was/ is brilliant -- she's still one of my mentors -- and my Short Story professor was so good that I did an independent study in Novel Writing with her. She was amazing at constructing plot and motivation. If I were to teach a "class" for the authors on this site, I think the first offering I would give would be "How to Write Exposition." New Authors tend to give it to us in one big lump, which is overwhelming and descriptions read more like technical writing than fiction. So I'll throw out this trick: try to start as deep in the action as you can and fill us in as you go along. If there's information we NEED to know to understand the character, demonstrate it, don't tell us. (The old "show don't tell" rule -- one of the hardest for new writers.) Discovery is far more powerful than exposition. My other bit of advice for new writers is "Read It Out Loud." Rhythm and cadence are very important. Sentences don't all need to be the same length -- read what you wrote aloud and if it's uncomfortable to speak, it's uncomfortable to read. I spend most of my time re-writing and drafting -- that's why I'm so slow to produce.
