@[Rock Creek Werewolf](/user/show/10002145) Honestly, I am grateful that you are so receptive of my comments. I always worry I'm just going on tangents. It should be noted that jinns are also said to have their own cities, besides just the wilderness in general understandings (though a bit more folksy). In Iran, the famed Shahr-e Jinn (City of the Jinn) is said to be somewhere in the Dasht-e-Kavir- a large desert in Iran in folklore and stories. So much like werewolves, it's accepted that they have their own systems of rule and systems of power. Other places like Bahla in Oman are said to be hot spots for jinn activity by locals- good or ill- though like when dealing with the fae, running into one is...somewhat not advisable because you don't know what you're possibly getting into. It might work out well....or be the start of a thriller movie and not in the good way. Additionally, I think another thing that would affect Yousef's negotiation between his human life and faith and his werewolf state of being on a more personal level (and things of that nature are already plenty personal for him already) is Frank's current situation. We don't know what Lunarian Orthodoxy holds in regards to the fate of non-werewolf beings after they die. Considering the attitude we've seen with werewolves (or at least some of them) of a strict binary of werewolves having their own faith, and humans having theirs- this may not be an answer beyond just it not being important or even outright annihilationism. For Yousef, who likely in his perspective likely feels he failed in protecting Frank- and I do think that is exactly how he sees it no matter how anybody else sees this (likely as a necessary sacrifice and I think even Yousef understands this- but the guilt remains as he as his master did not protect him- he couldn't)- this I think would be hard to digest if this is the orthodox werewolf view (actually what is the lunarian orthodox view on matters like these- that the soul is destroyed or warped and unable to be recovered- as we see with the human sacrifices where one loses their humanity?) In comparison to his own faith from when he was still human on the other hand- which could argue for potentially Frank getting back his human body eventually for judgement after death (though this is a novel situation nevertheless)- Yousef may find comfort in his faith in regards to Frank's fate- that it may not be permanent- and even if it's never fixed in this life- it may in the next (because even if Frank has been turned into a dog- he was born a human- it stands to reason in a muslim context he'd be raised up and judged as one- with potentially some caveats considering his years as a dog- though considering animals are said to be of communities like people do in muslim tradition that's a whole other rabbit hole to get into, but he'd likely be returned to the form of his birth). This would also indirectly extend potentially to those of the pack who lost their humanity- Yousef could cope with that through the belief that eventually they'd get it back- though not for a long time- and not until after death- it could happen (particularly in relation to Seth perhaps). It should be noted in some views animals will just kind of get thanos-snapped and become dust after being judged and handling disputes with each other, but others argue they would wind up going to heaven (as the first view is moreso exegetical and interpretation based, and thus can be disputed in favor of the second which is also interpretation based). Yousef probably would align with said second view. Though most werewolves likely would see this attitude with skepticism at best and disdain at worst- some wondering why a werewolf is so guilty over what was little more than a enchanted human who was a necessary sacrifice for the safety of their own. As it stands, I think for a time, Yousef is going to grieve what he's lost- he will move past it as Frank isn't entirely dead- but he will grieve but also find beauty in other things.

@Anon I truly love your comments. I do have to say: I am NOT a theologian or a historian or anthropoligist, and a lot of what you're talking about (jinn's in different Arabic sects) are a bit beyond me. I'm borrowing a lot from other cultures (Latin, Arabic) because I chose those ethnicities for those characters, and it follows that they would draw their values / superstitions, etc. from those regions / cultures. When I'm in doubt, I'm checking wikipedia or google. I hope I don't disappoint you if I get something wrong. What interests me are the characters (human) losing their human characteristics, and becoming wolf, and determining what remains that keeps them 'Tom,' 'Yousef,' and so on. And how they react to the horrifying, unfair, and necessary choices they need to make to survive, protect their pack, and navigate the urges of wolfhood.

I really have been enjoying the series overall, but I do miss the erotic horror aspect of the first few chapters, like it would be cool for maybe a werewolf hunter ( who maybe a mondjugen himself) to fight our protagonists.

@Anonymous I've been outlining the third book (holiday parties and general holiday cheer are an absolute time suck, so I haven't put pen to paper yet, but eager to get cracking ASAP in the new year). As I develop it, I'm adding a lot of horror (werewolf magic is powerful and awesome, but is also unmerciful and severe). Glad you're enjoying it. Send me ideas, if you have any requests. I love the conversation with readers.
