I believe the purpose of this series is to show how Todd maintains control of his empire after he won the war in the last series. It also showcases how things run behind the scenes now that he's in charge. And finally, this story also shows that while a ruler gets to sit on the throne, it doesn't mean that its just roses and dandelions. While it may not be exciting for some people, its definitely exciting for readers such as me who remains interested in how Todd Cove Academy is like after Todd took charge. Not everyone reads a story just for the conclusion. So yes, there is a reason for this sequel to exist because there are people who's interested in it. Its not up to you, anon commenter, to decicde whether something should be here or not. I'm not even sure if the author is trying to be unpredictable and is trying to pull a plot twist at all, nor should he, its his story and he can decide to expand his universe the way he wants to. He's not obligated to "shake things up" just to meet the criterias of some reader who only considers a sequel to be a real sequel if its somehow different from the first one

I'll just weigh in and say that I'm still really enjoying this series, and I think there's plenty of dramatic tension. But a little of Todd goes a long way, and for me, the story is less enjoyable whenever we spend much time with Todd. It works much better when we're just focusing on the followers who worship him.

Hold on there. I don't think we are trying to guilt trip the author into feeling guilty. We are just pointing out flaws in tension of the story. He clearly is trying to create a compelling story. To be able to successfully add tension to story you need balance. You need a little push and pull from both sides otherwise it gets boring and the reader gets restless. In the end Todd can win, but make it a good story and I will be happy with the ending. Continue with one side continuously win and I will feel like the ending was not earned or will I care for it.

@nycboot: the thing that bugs me with your comment is how hung up you are with the "good guys must win, bad guys should suffer a most brutal, violent death" stance while disguising it as a criticism to the author's writing to make it sound more impartial instead of heavily biased. I can sense that you wont be having this rant if the situation was reversed and that Todd is constantly being thwarted all the time. News flash, a good story is not so black and white. Also, ever heard of the saying that a journey is not about the destination, but how you get there? Because, while you may argue that the writing on the wall might be clear for Lane (and im not even sure if it is consderimg we're only in chapter 3 and he friggin has a deus ex machina plot device in the form of chester's glasses) the biggest mystery that is yet to unfold is HOW Todd takes him down. The dude is not even aware of his existence yet, you don't know how their interactions are going to be. Overall, I think you should be used to the tone of this series by now since its literally a sequel of the first one. Either you get off from your wish fullfillment fantasies of wanting the good guys to win and just enjoy the aspects of this story that the author is showcasing (like the mindscape enslavements, the rich, authoritarian worldbuilding, and honestly, the fun characters) or you go elsewhere and find a story that best suit your tastes. Don't go guilt tripping the author into feeling that he's failing as an author just because his stories don't go to the directions that you want em to go.

Hi its Anonymous again! Thank you nycboot you understand what I mean! Everything has already been built up in the first story. There is no reason to keep on doing the same thing over again and pounding into our heads that Todd is the ruler, Todd will always win. It just does not make for a good story. Another thing I want to say is, any good sequel has something to say or has a purpose to exist. Currently this sequel has not said anything that is meaningful to advance the plot from what we already know of. Yes Chester tried to do something but it failed. The foreshadowing of Lane getting enslaved is soo crystal clear. Theres nothing exciting anymore about the story. Ultimately I know what is going to happen, Todd is going to win in the end like usual and things will go on like normal. He just keeps on building tension and it is going nowhere. I guess time will only tell what will happen.

How the things improve more and more, I don't know how this is possible. You is a incredible writer. The pace and all the scenes and dialogues are so organic, that I can be excitedseveral times and still really enjoy the story. Giving your audience the right sensations is what makes a great writer, which you definitely are. Congratulations.

I love how we get to see more of what life is with Todd. I dont know why some people seem to hate this. I would love to see them try anything better. My faveroite parts have to be the call back to mitch as the butler, always loved the idea behind mitch. Also love how we arre seeing what life is like with todd now in control since it is called slave academy. cant wait for the next part.
