I hope you add some ridiculously sexy uniforms to the cops, like a sexy spoof of their former authority or some kind of alteration to them. That's a very hot form of humiliation!

oh, and you said in one of your meta writings that you felt like you pulled a punch in this chapter when it came to the sheriff. i definitely would like to know what punch you think you pulled, but it was pretty damn effective here.

So I started drafting up a long screed talking about the role of women in gay fiction, then decided no one wanted to read that. Great job on this chapter. It was absolutely horrifying, but did a great job of showing how this town effects its more permanent residents. Finding out that Christine appeared to her father at age 8 and for 8 years he watched her grow up explains how this town and the manipulations work. It ALSO tells us that the mayor took a presumably 16 year old girl (assuming I'm reading these ages correctly), effectively stuck two babies in her, and took away years of her life. Oh, and put her in a relationship with a gay man who could never love her with the directive to make more children. Supernatural, horrifying, and completely accurate to how certain communities (way more than we'd care to admit) treat actual young women and girls. Then there's Michelle, who not only (probably) had the same thing happen to her, but she seems to have feelings for another (married) man. Everyone is stuck in loveless marriages for the sole purpose of making more children so the town doesn't die. You mentioned it in your meta writings, but I really like how this story doesn't just focus on the tragedy of Kevin and Steve, but also examines how other people have to deal with the consequences of homophobia. Lastly, there's Guthrie. It's vague on if he was straight and Steve turned him gay, or if he always had feelings for guys and stuffed them down deep to have a family, but either way we got to see the effect and how it twisted him. Keep up the good work.

Thanks! I ran into a bit of a hump in the second chapter, but I'm past it now, so hopefully not much longer. The ME/CFS likes to come along and kick my ass for weeks or months at a time, though, so I've learned not to make promises.
