Hypnothrill, you are a GENIUS. I disagree with the above poster: this story is a great piece of satire! First and foremost, it clearly addresses the racist thoughts as falsely implanted (and false in general). Secondly, it goes to extremes to make its satirical points (Swift said that satire is taking a silly idea to its logical conclusions)--Andre/Andy becomes a hyper-exaggerated parody of White supremacy, while Bryan becomes a hyper-exaggerated nameless "black body". We recognize the ideas as ludicrous and laugh at them, *because* they are presented as inherently wrong and silly. And finally--and Martin, I want to echo Hypnothrill's comments of respect and admiration for your work on this site--the addition of the "Don't make it about race" character is the icing on the cake (although Hypnothrill, I *might* change his name, because to name Martin directly feels like an insult). The presence of that character--the "well-meaning" person who enforces racial bias by ignoring race entirely--rockets the work to a new level. No, I didn't find it sexy--but I don't think that's the point. Cheers to Hypnothrill for this, Elan for the initial story and debate, and Martin for moderating! :)

So... to counteract a story with half-baked mind control elements and major racial overtones we’ve got a story with mind control elements that are probably even less-baked and racial overtones which are just as strong (albeit in the name of “satire”) Normally I love your stuff, Hypnothrill, but in terms of a “response” story I hate to say it but this feels like a swing and a miss...

I liked the rimming and hope there would be more of such things in the future. The transition of memories is pretty interesting. I also like how he isnt dumbed down, an unfortunate all too common occurrence in my view.

The problem with using feelings as a metric is that it never stops changing, you can't please everyone. It literally depends on your mood, you cannot be objective with that. Everything can be an insult, it depends on a ton of factors that have very little to do with the word itself. You can be incredibly mean to someone without using a single "Bad Word", and people often are. Policing words is dumb.

Once a term has been used badly enough in life it takes on a context and becomes more than "just an innocent medical term," and for the record a lot of "innocent medical terms" have that context. The word "homosexual" is uncomfortable for some because it was used in the context of diagnosing gayness as a mental illness. What you're describing is the fluctuating nature of language and its kinda gonna happen whether you like it or not. That's just how language is.

just because the only way you've heard it was being used in a derogatory way. That's why it has this "sound" to you. It's still an innocent medical term, nothing more. I don't like that my vocabulary is abused by some people so I'm forced to refrain from using certain words and constantly have to find new terms which then are just abused again. Same will happen with POC, I'm sure.
