Not sure why the comment is in triplicate; I got your point the first time. It would not make my job that much harder to have Isaac absorbed and I could do it if I wanted to, but I don't. Given the sexual nature of the process, Isaac's own heterosexuality, religion, age and relationship with Nazir, I feel that it would be very much against both characters' personalities and motivations.

Immortal dad makes for a harder story I just think that the previous story had closure more consistent with character motivation , "I love you and I don't want you to die but we already tried getting you to join me and that worked out poorly" versus "I love you and it's easy to get you to join me but it makes my narrator's job harder" ;)

(Don't wish to get too personal, but I much prefer dead dad to immortal dad). Remember Isaac never had a son, and Nazir presumably never had a father, so in that area they they meet each other's needs. I'm thinking ahead to when (if) Jamal & Selim make their way to England (or even France or Venice) and if someone recognizes him....will he still remember the language? Is his slavehood so unbreakable that he'll know how to deal with the situation? (It's interesting that you have an interesting contract between Nazir, a freed slave, and Jamal who's happy to remain a slave. This story is so rich and has so many possibilities.
