It just happens that we have developed a kink for that. The way demons work is that there are two classes of demons. The real demons are usually born demons, or demonified being who have been thoroughly and completely corrupted and altered at their very soul to become like born demons. The Primal Beast certainly wants to dominate the world, with his chosen people on the top of the hierarchy, but in order for that to happen, there needs to be "lesser beings" for them to dominate. An equal world is something he does not desire. The Abyss has no intention of leaving his realm, doesn't stop others from being pulled within. Medieval life certainly is hard for most men. The Knights that make up the Order are of the two types. They either grow up in the Order, or they are distinguished enough soldiers to be made knights. The former is dogmatically taught to obey chivalry to the detriment of their own health and safety, while the latter grows wearied of the relentless battles where no matter how hard they fight or how high they rise, even achieving the legendary status of knighthood, they are still essentially powerless apwns. Those that escape the cycles like Frederic are somewhat already compelled by pelasure and esire for hedonism. It is not hard to imagine that with offer of pleasure, especially combined with magical compelling, would amke ghem succumb. The demons have carefully engineered reborn Gregoey fot his purpose.
